Instant access to that little bottom.
Fresh pants after every miss without removing any clothes.
8 layers of cotton, 60ml of water; Sluuuuuuuurp! Gone.
The thing about pottying a baby is...
...from a practical standpoint, it's kind of tricky.
You want instant access to that little bottom but you don't want your child to be naked all the time.
You want fresh pants after every miss, but you don't want the rigmarole of a full blown nappy change.
You want to use cloth, but you'll miss quite a bit and the cost of having a enough nappies fairly knocks you sideways.
Fear Not! Help is at hand.
Hello! I'm Born Ready Jenn, baby-led pottying enthusiast. I pottied all four of my babies and came up with Flaparaps to make my life easier (necessity is the mother of invention and all that). Every potty offer reminded me of exactly what my priorities were; and I'm pleased to say that Flaparaps hit every single one. (Buy here.)
Enter the side opening drop flap system.
Flap open, offer the potty, flap back up - all without putting your baby down. Marvellous!
So far, so dry.... but what happens when you have a miss?
Exactly the same thing! Flap open, replace the pad, flap back up - all without putting your baby down. Multiples of Marvellousness.
What if it's a poo miss.....?
Stay. Calm.
Unclip the belt, remove the Flaparap and the pad, proceed with clean-up operations. Flaparaps are well thought through but they're not made of magic. A poo miss will be contained but it's still going to be messy! (Buy here.)
Babies are so soft and squishy! What with their lovely round bellies and their chubby little legs... Couldn't you just cuddle them all day?
Let's give that little body as much freedom as possible. They have a hard enough time controlling their limbs as it is!
Flaparaps have a low cut front (under the belly) and a high cut leg so the tummy isn't squashed and the legs aren't restricted. Give the flap a good tug and the leg elastic will always fit perfectly; so no baggy crotch and no gaping legs.
Looks good, makes a good seal and means that the same Flaparap can be used from birth to eighteen months (though you'll need to change the belt as your baby grows).
Who would ask for more?! (Buy here.)
Although the pads couldn't be simpler, a lot of thought went into their design. (I know! Crazy isn't it?!)
They're a single sheet of soft cotton fabric, which you fold to give 8 or 12 layers of protection. Water molecules get trapped between the layers so a thin pad holds a surprising amount of liquid.
They're comfortable, absorbent, easy to wash, quick to dry and cheap to buy.
These pads will save your sanity.
Get Forty. Keep them in an enormous pile on a bookshelf. Never again drive yourself (and your child) insane trying to keep your last nappy dry until the next wash run.
If you know you're never going to run out of pads you get to be the laid back baby-led pottier you always imagined you'd be!
And...... Breathe. (Buy here.)
Training pants that leak when your child is asleep.... How annoying are they?!
Babies fall asleep all the time. Everywhere. And the more children you have, the more likely it is that your tiny baby will fall asleep sneakily while you're wiping someone's nose, sitting in traffic or discussing the merits of wings / wands / tractor wheels on the school run. And they'll be wearing their daytime pants! Uh oh...
But panic not, for Flaparaps still work when a child is lying down (even if they sleep on their fronts or sides). And better yet, you can add an extra pad or swap out a wet one without waking them up.
Win. (Buy here.)
If you're into the pre-emptive evening wee (which I am), Flaparaps have three big advantages over conventional nappies:
I'm always screen blind when I go to pre-empt. Wait 5 minutes for my retinas to recover? No time for that! I need a nappy I can operate in the dark. (Buy here.)
Tiny babies look a bit like frogs; with a wide flat belly and knees that bend out sideways. Those sideways knees make it awkard to get training pants on and off - especially if they're soiled. If they're tight enough around the legs to contain a wee, they're virtually impossible to take off without growing another pair of hands.
With Flaparaps, two hands are enough.
Mobile babies and toddlers aren't too keen on lying still for nappy changes but that won't be a problem if you change them on the hoof. Fasten the belt while your child crawls around (or runs away) and then grab them for ten seconds to tuck in the flap.
Everyone's happy. (Buy here.)
For toddlers, the problem with pull-up style pants is changing them.
They're great while they're dry; there's nothing more convenient. But changing them requires clothes (and often shoes) to be removed. It's awful outside in bad weather and you need somewhere clean to put the clothes you're taking off until it's time to put them on again.
Not so with Flaparaps!
Change them anywhere and keep your shoes (and hair) on.
I've changed Flaparaps in supermarkets and submarines; urban jungles and adventure playgrounds; muddy woods and soggy sand; glorious sunshine and driving rain; car boots and train toilets; and all without a changing mat or a care in the world!
(OK, I lied about the submarines, but the rest... all true.) (Buy here.)
